Have you wondered if National Board Certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is right for you?

National Board Certification incentives are intact after the 2012 legislative session, including the base and challenging schools pay incentives. Read more about current incentives here.

NBPTS has two processes available to teachers/school counselors:
  • Take One! ®* -- where candidates complete just one of the four portfolio entries as pre-candidacy and/or professional development. Candidates can "bank" and apply a passing score on the Take One! ® entry for up to 3 years for full candidacy. The NBPTS fee for Take One! ® is $395.
  • Full National Board Certification* –- where candidates complete four portfolio entries and respond to six, 30-minute assessment center questions. Candidates have three years to complete the process. The NBPTS full candidacy fee is $2,500 with a $65 registration fee. Washington has a National Board conditional loan application process that pays $2,000 toward the fee. There will be another application window open later this summer.
WEA will run two National Board Jump Start Seminars this summer for confirmed and interested candidates:

  • Spokane (registration is closing soon)
  • Take One! ® two-day National Board Jump Start (June 27-28)
  • Full candidacy four-day National Board Jump Start (June 26-29)
  • Lynnwood (North Seattle)
  • Take One! ® two-day National Board Jump Start (July 31-Aug. 1)
  • Full candidacy four-day National Board Jump Start (July 30-Aug. 2)
You are invited to join this summer! If you are committed candidate, Jump Start will set you on the right course in your National Board journey. If you are seriously considering National Board Certification, Jump Start will give you a firm understanding of the process in order to help you make your decision.
